Question: You have been brought in by the organization’s CEO to work as an Executive Coach with the Senior Vice President of Sales. There has been a heavy churn of staff resigning from his team over the last 24 months and the exit interviews of the employees who are leaving consistently state the SVP’s management style as the reason they are leaving the organization. Complaints include that he is autocratic, dictatorial, a micro manager, yells and is very mercurial in his decision making process. Employees report feeling unsupported, afraid for the jobs, belittled and depressed. Ironically, the SVP leads the organization in sales and his clients report him to be warm, in-touch with their needs and someone they would consider a “friend”. The CEO has spoken with the SVP a few times but has been worried to hit him too “hard” given the money he makes for the firm and that he has been heavily recruited by their number one industry competitor in the past.
