The Identification of Corynebacterium xerosis and Proteus mirabilis
ABSTRACT
After receiving the unknown bacteria, there were several different tests that were performed. For example, there was a protein metabolism test, carbohydrate metabolism test, and agar plates. As all the tests were being conducted, there was also an unknown spreadsheet that had gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria that needed to be identified. This spreadsheet had the building blocks of how to create the flowcharts for the bacteria. The flowcharts that were produced after the tests also helped determine and single out other possibilities. After the series of tests were performed and completed, it was concluded that the gram-positive bacteria is Corynebacterium xerosis (C. xerosis) and the gram-negative bacteria is Proteus mirabilis (P. mirabilis). To figure out the unknown bacteria, it took a lot of trial and error because not every test came out the way it should have.
