Prepare a VoiceThread presentation to teach us about the Tulsa Race Massacre. You are the TEACHER.
We can only understand our present by studying our past.
We do not study history to make us feel guilty but to bring awareness to the truth. Create a VoiceThread (a voice-over presentation) that addresses information below and includes your reaction to the ideas presented. 1) Read the articles provided 2) Review the videos provided. 3) Research more on your own. 4) Create a PowerPoint of images that will serve as the backdrop for your voice-over. –Save your PowerPoint as a PDF before uploading to VoiceThread.
Include in your presentation: 1. Tell the story: the back-story, the immediate outcome, and the historical significance of the event. 2. Has the history of this event always been included in textbooks? Explain. 3. Should all Americans learn about the Tulsa Race Massacre, not just the people of Oklahoma? Why or why not? 4. What do we need to know about the Tulsa Race Massacre (BTW, it was, until recently, referred to as the Tulsa Race Riots) to help us better understand the history of Oklahoma and its lasting impact on our state? 5. Why has the name of the event been changed from the Tulsa Race Riots to the Tulsa Race Massacre?
PowerPoint Instructions: The VoiceThread PowerPoint with voice-over lecture should be a minimum of 3 minutes, including a minimum of 5 slides with IMAGES about the events and people involved, and your last slide should be a bibliography / works cited page (this does not count as one of your required slides) of all sources used, in an accepted formatting style, i.e. APA, MLA, or Chicago. Minimum of 3 credible, scholarly sources.
MAXIMUM of 5 words on each slide.
Please USE your textbook as a source.
DO Not use .com, .net. or .orgs
Do Not use Wikipedia
Do not use an encyclopedia as one of your major sources. These are compilations, not a scholarly source.
You can use .edu and .gov
I strongly encourage you to use EbscoHost. Remember, you must also cite all images used on the slide in which the image appears. The citation of the image needs to be on the same slide as that image, using an acceptable formatting style, i.e. APA, MLA, or Chicago
You must use IMAGES that are appropriate for this topic, i.e. person(s) involved, time period specific historical photos, etc. PowerPoint presentations with all text are inadequate.
You should create a presentation that places the images in the forefront of your presentation and rely on your voice-over to teach us the information.
MAXIMUM of 5 words on each slide. LINKS:
